5.7 Batch normalisation

Batch normalisation is a technique for improving the speed, performance and stability of artificial neural networks. It is used to normalise the input layer by re-centring and re-scaling [14–16]. The effectiveness of the batch normalisation is evident, but the reasons behind that are currently under discussion and sometimes the reasons are discordant. Interested readers can refer to Knyazev and Neymeyr, Kohler et al., Yang et al. and Santurkar et al. [17–20], for a detailed study on the effectiveness of batch normalisation.
