Chapter 15

Chicago. The Present.

River knew he had drunk too much. The woman giggled when he caught his foot on the edge of the hotel room door and almost tripped.

“Whoa!” he said, catching himself. “Watch that first step.”

They went into the room and he turned on the lights. His gym bag still lay on the bed, unopened. He moved past her, grabbed it, and dropped it next to the wall. The woman called Lilly dropped her handbag on the dresser and said, “I think maybe you had a big head start, Mister Red. How are you feeling?”

“I feel great,” he answered. He took a moment to admire her form as she lounged against the dresser. The woman was truly remarkable looking. “Where are you from?”

She held up a finger and wagged it. “Uh uh. Remember, we agreed. First names only.”

“You’re not gonna ask me for money afterwards are you?”

She made a face, feigning indignation. “Why, sir, I’m not that kind of girl!”

“Sorry, I had to ask. I mean, I meet you in a hotel bar and you’re dressed, well, like you’re ready to party.”

“I am ready to party.” She moved toward him and put her arms around his neck. “How about you?”

She was taller than most women he had kissed. As their lips met he rubbed his hands along her back. Her body was tight and strong. She would be a hell cat in bed.

As intoxicated as he was, River managed to deftly unzip the back of her dress. It fell to the floor and she broke the kiss.

“Wait a second,” she said. She turned to the dresser, opened her handbag, and removed two candlesticks, small bases, and a matchbook. “More romantic, no?”

River shrugged. “Whatever turns you on.”

Dressed only in a provocative bra, panties, garter belt, stockings, and high heels combination, the woman walked to the king size bed and placed one candle on the nightstand. She lit it and then moved around the bed to the other side. She placed the second candle on that nightstand, lit it, dropped her purse next to the candle, and then stretched out on the bed.

Damn, River thought. This girl knows what she’s doing.

He gestured toward the bathroom. “Uhm, excuse me, honey, but I gotta see a man about a horse.” He gestured toward the bathroom.

She smiled, waved, and said, “Hurry back.”

River went into the bathroom and missed seeing the woman remove a cloth-wrapped object from her purse and place it under one of the pillows.

When he returned, she held out her arms. “Come to me,” she whispered.
