Selecting Your Board Type And Port

Before you can upload any sketches on your board, you need to define the board you are using and select the port that will be used to upload sketches to the board. To do this, run the Arduino Desktop IDE and go to the ‘Tools’ menu. Click on ‘Board’ to bring up a list of all the connected devices. From this list, select the entry that matches your board.

Go to the ‘Tools’ menu again and bring up the ‘Serial Port’ menu. From this, select the serial device of your board. In most cases, this will be COM3 or higher. If you are unsure, disconnect your board and bring up the ‘Serial Port’ menu once again. If you find that an entry has disappeared, that is the entry that corresponds to your board. Plug in your board and select that entry as your serial port.
