308. I am not the first to point out Aquinas’s positive view of the Jews in the Romans commentary. Steven Boguslawski and Bruce Marshall have both treated the topic. See Boguslawski, Thomas Aquinas on the Jews; Bruce Marshall, “Quasi in Figura.” I view this chapter as building on Marshall and Boguslawski’s work by drawing upon Soulen’s reading of the significance of Paul’s present tense descriptions of Israel, especially as these relate to the ceremonial law.
