Chapter 5: Saffron

The clouds have cleared up by the time they return to Baharat, yet already the sun begins to set as the sky begins to glow pink and orange in hue. With ease, the ship arrives at the shore, quickly embedding itself in the sand once more, though this time with considerably more grace as the three descend.

As an added bonus, Argus is already waiting for them on the shore. “ Ilíthio psári! ” He shouts at them, his tail going rigid as he growls at them. “You can’t be serious! You mean to tell me you take such poor care of your ship that you RAM IT INTO THE COAST TO PARK?!”

He rushes past them and begins examining the ship itself, focusing more on it than on them as he fumes with rage. “Children, all of you. This ship is a beauty! It’s a class three magi replica! I know it’s made of plastic, but still, you can damage it if you’re not careful!” He glares at Anselm, “By Hephaestus, you can feel the magic power dripping off this thing, whoever conjured it put a lot of care into it, take some pride in your ship!”

Anselm frowns and takes a step back, he rubs the back of his neck and begins to feel just a little bit ashamed for taking it for granted. It was quite the gift. He made it and me, and I guess I just liked the other gift more. “Sorry,” he signs.

“Magi... replica?” Rafael asks, “I get that it’s like a toy, so that explains the replica thing, I think. But classes and magic and... what?”

“It’s powered by magic.” Argus spells it out, “And ‘class three’ is because of its small size.” He shakes his head. “What’s her name?”

“Jacky,” Jacky says, thinking he’s talking about her.

“Not you, idiot. The ship! What’s her name?”

“...Hey, that’s a good point, I think we’ve just been calling it Anselm’s ship this whole time.” Raf realizes. “What is it called?”

Anselm can’t bring himself to look at Argus, he just stands there looking ashamed. A name! A NAME! Of course, it needs a name! Every ship has a name! The Golden Hind, Queen Anne’s Revenge, why didn’t I think of a name?

“Don’t tell me you haven’t thought of a name.” Argus snorts. “Pathetic, and you call yourself a captain.” He spits.

“Oh leave the kid alone,” Rafael speaks up, taking Anselm and Jacky aback. “Can’t you see he probably just didn’t think of it till now? He’s just a child, you can’t expect like... navy standards from a kid.”

Anselm gives Rafael a small smile for speaking up for him. I owe you one.

“Hmph,” Argus snorts again, flicking his tail as he turns back to the ship. “A ship this fine NEEDS a fine name. Names have power, kid. My name and my work gave me everlasting life, think what a name for a ship like this can do. You’re handicapping yourself without a name.”

He finishes his inspection, satisfied there’s no damage, and walks over to Anselm.
