The story of Daniel and the lions is found in chapter 6 of the book of Daniel. This book has lots of exciting stories about what happened to God’s people, the Hebrews, when they were captives in the land of Babylon.

When Daniel was an old man, the Babylonians were conquered by the Persians. The Persian Empire was huge. It included many nations, each of which had its own gods or goddesses. As ruler of the empire, King Darius must have known about many gods and goddesses. But when he saw what happened to Daniel in the lions’ den, Darius discovered something special about the God that Daniel worshipped.

After Daniel was safely away from the lions, the king sent a letter to all nations in his empire, encouraging everyone to worship the “living God” of Daniel. You can read his letter for yourself in verses 25-27 of Daniel 6.
