“I grew up on Cenairiss II, but I think the major cities here on Cenairiss V are much nicer,” one of the females said, smiling up at him. “Was your family part of the original settlement group?”

“No, I think my mom’s parents came here for work.”

“Have you ever left Cenairiss V?” the blue-haired female asked. She was the one that had started talking to him while he was waiting for Karissa to finish meeting with her boss.

“Nope,” Zeke replied, shaking his head. “I was born here, and we couldn’t really afford off-world travel.”

“Oh, you have to see Pthalo someday. It’s a resort planet and it’s so beautiful!” Another of Karissa’s coworkers reached out to touch his arm, squeezing as she added, “I’ve always wanted to go back.”

What the fuck? Did she just invite me to go with her?

As if Mordek would ever let him do that.

Taking a long drink from the coffee Karissa left with him, Zeke glanced around at the females and was surprised to see there were six of them now. He couldn’t even remember when the dark-haired female arrived, but she seemed to be just as interested in him as the others.

Honestly, it was a nice change of pace to have anyone’s attention.

Karissa’s coworkers weren’t just listening to him, they were actually asking him to tell them stories about the different jobs he’d worked, and they wanted him to talk — which was a hell of a lot different than being around the other Alphas. These females weren’t treating him like a kid. In fact, several of them had openly hit on him, even after he’d made it clear he wasn’t available.

Zeke opened his mouth to ask about the ‘resort planet’ the females were discussing, but the buzz of his phone had him shutting it again. He dug it out of his jeans and stepped away from the group of females to answer. “Hey, what’s up?”

“That’s what I want to know,” Mordek growled. “Is Karissa okay?”

“Ask him where they are,” Jeden added from the background.

“We’re still at her office, she’s meeting with someone and—”

“Why the fuck aren’t you with her?” Donvin shouted. “Something’s wrong!”

“What?” Zeke’s stomach dropped, his skin turning cold as he let his senses expand, searching for what they obviously felt, and he picked up on it just as Mordek spoke.

“You need to find her now.” The rumble of a command rolled through his Alpha’s voice, but it wasn’t necessary. Zeke was already on the move, following her scent down the hallway.

“I’ll call you back as soon as I have her,” he mumbled, hanging up before any of them could say something. Her scent was on his tongue, and now that he was aware of the tension in the pack’s connection… he couldn’t focus on anything else.

Karissa needed him, something was seriously wrong, and he’d been drinking coffee in a fucking breakroom.

A growl was already clicking to life in his chest when he reached the end of a hall and realized her scent was stronger behind him.
