Fight night was finally here. Danielle was right there with Todd and his team, while they were getting him warmed up backstage. Todd was more ripped and toned than she’s ever seen him before, as he had to shed some weight to make the weight division, but he didn’t look weak or deflated like some guys got from dehydration. He had been a wrestler in high school and knew his body very well.

Some of the other guys backstage were very serious and others were very nervous, which is completely normal, as Danielle was told by Todd’s coach that even world class champions get nervous before rights. But not Todd – he was a different beast all together. This was fun and enjoyable for him. He took his training very seriously, but was also very jovial and entertaining his entourage with jokes.

One of the fight organizers came in and gave Todd the signal that he was up now. Todd gave her a wink with a confident smile as he walked out to make his way to the cage. She wouldn’t be allowed in his corner, but she had front row seats. She would be exactly where Todd wanted her to be.

Once Todd entered the cage, he hopped around the cage with such grace and fluidity; you’d think he’s done this all this life. His opponent got in and soon after Todd as he was the heavy favorite to win the fight. The announcer introduced him as the Freddy “The Pit bull” Russo, and mentioned his achievements and record.

"He's called 'The Pit bull', lame… like that's original," said a friend of Todd’s who was sitting next to Danielle.

The joke went right over her head and then it was explained to her that almost every other MMA fighter has the nickname “The Pit bull”. It’s overused and unoriginal.

The referee told them both the rules as they faced off. His opponent was looking at Todd with vicious intent and trying to intimidate him. However, fighting was so natural to Todd that he almost looked bored looking directly into his opponent’s eyes.

When the referee asked them to touch gloves, Todd’s opponent refused to acknowledge Todd’s fists reaching for him to touch gloves.

"What's this guy's deal?" Danielle asked.

"What an asshole. Make him pay, Todd" yelled Todd’s head.

The bell rang and they squared up and Todd blocked and avoided The Pitt bull’s punches easily, then his opponent took a shot at kicking Todd's groin. Todd tried to block the shot, but it still made contact with Todd's groin and he went down momentarily and winced in pain. That’s the ironic thing about big, strong men. Every man has the same soft spot – the testicles. Getting hit down there can end any street fight in an instance, regardless of the size of the man. However, this was a professional sport and that particular move was highly illegal and could also result in disqualification.

The crowd erupted in people booing in unison to show their disapproval of illegal tactics. Todd’s head coach, his friends, and even of the crowd continued in vain to appeal to the referee.
