ALMOST POLY
Polyâ¦. What is it? Itâs an old term becoming new in western culture. But poly has many meanings. The term itself means many; an indefinite number other than one. In relationships, polyamorous people are described as being in loving, intentional, and intimate relationships with multiple people at the same time. And then there is polygamy, which is the same dynamic but involves married folks. Iâm taking you on a journey, and I need you to follow me with this; in the dynamic of loveâs lesson, Jaquan had an indefinite number of ladies other than one. Although his actions were always intentional with us, the love and intimacy were never there, just manipulation. So, Me and Shaquita lived there, and then there was Angela and the one-offs. It still blows my mind how I ended up living with my ex and his new-old situation. Our dynamic for those who knew us wondered, âwhat were they anyway.â Were we poly? No, almost, I guess.
Jaquan walked in and looked at Shaquita, and scoffed. Shaquita looked up at Jaquan, evil-eyed. Angela walked in behind him, smiling as she helped him bring in all his latest toys. He said,
Jaquan: Tabby! Come, see what I bought! We âbout to go out tonight; Iâm about to be FRESH! Look at you looking all sexy in them leggings, girl.
Angela and Shaquita looked at him, and I could feel the hate for me coming from them. I smiled and laughed to myself, and Jaquan took his time showing me his outfits, shoes, hats, and watches. He intentionally joked and flirted with me in front of them, and I could feel their jealousy rising. I entertained him for a few minutes and decided to go to my room. I wanted no part of the shit that was taking place. Jaquan left his bags in the living room, and before he left the house again, he said to Shaquita,
Jaquan: Bitch, what are you crying for NOW! Always crying, I swear! Thatâs why I call you Big Baby. Iâm about to make some money right now. So why are you stressing about MY MONEY? Iâll make that overnight cause Iâm THAT NIGGA! Man, Iâm outta here.
Jaquan left the house with Shaquita in shambles. Shaquita stomped up the stairs and down the hall to her room. I opened the door to see a crying Shaquita tearing her room apart. I ran down the hall and asked,
Tabby: Girl, what are you doing? Stop it!
Shaquita: (sobs) I swear Iâm tired of this, Tabbyâ¦what did I do to deserve this? I donât understand. I want him out of this room, fuck that! Iâm putting all his shit in the basement.
Shaquita continues to tear her room apart. She takes down all the pictures and takes his clothes and belongings out of the closet. She cries as she disconnects his gaming system and the television. I watched Shaquita, true to her word, remove all of his things out of her room. Some things went into the basement, and others in the living room.
