Rebel

“I'll go ahead and drop off these worksheets to Mr. Lawson,” Madison said as we headed for the exit about twenty minutes later. “So… I guess I’ll see you again on Monday?”

“Yeah. Sounds good. And hey, that thing we talked about… Keep me updated?”

She gave me a tiny smile and a brief nod before parting from my side. As I swung my backpack over my shoulder, I spun on my heel, letting out a squeak when I found Wesley standing behind me. Taking a step back, I closed my eyes and placed a hand against my chest, blowing out a breath.

For fuck's sake. What is it with these men and their love for sneaking up on me when I’m least expecting it?

Wesley’s brows were raised and there was a highly inquisitive look on his face as his eyes slid from me to Madison then back to me again. “I see you two are on speaking terms again. You must've taken my advice.”

“Hardly,” I grumbled under my breath.

“Then why are you meeting up with her in the library?”

“Tutoring,” I said thickly, which made his brows climb higher up his forehead. “Mr. Lawson recommended it and Madison volunteered to do it to get extra credit. I didn’t know I was meeting with her until yesterday.”

“Right.” He didn’t look persuaded. “And yet you couldn’t ask Cody for the extra help?”

I shot him a glare. “You know what’s been going on with Cody, so don’t even pull that bullshit on me.”

He nodded, knowing I was right. “Fair enough. But you two clearly talked about something. What is it you want her to keep you updated about?”

My body tensed up at the question. Fuck. Of course, he’d heard that. Shaking my head, I said, “It’s nothing you need to concern yourself over.”

Wesley wanted answers. I know he did. I could see it in his eyes as he scrutinized my body language. But Madison’s situation had nothing to do with him or any of the guys. This was between me and Madison, and I really needed it to stay that way. At least for now, anyway, until I knew for sure whether or not she could get her hands on that money.

“Fine,” he said, which made me blink up at him in total surprise. I really wasn’t expecting him to let it go that easily. “Oh, I need your keys.”

“Why?”

“Have you not been checking your messages?”

I shook my head and dug in my pocket for my phone, tapping the screen and glancing down.

Lucian: Bring your keys to the front office. Devlin called a tow truck to take your car to the shop. They should be there any minute.

Shit, I internally groaned as my eyes hopped to the timestamp. He’d sent that message about ten minutes ago.

Wesley plucked the keys from my hand just as soon as I’d pulled them out my purse. “I’ll take care of it so you’re not late for your next class.” He leaned down to give me a sweet kiss. “I love you.
