Election Campaign

Jaime Harrison announced his candidacy on May 29, 2019, in a video posted to YouTube that previewed his campaign strategy (Harrison 2019b). It started with his biography, while Harrison stood outside his childhood home, saying:

Comic books. That’s how I learned to read. Being born to a sixteen-year-old mom and raised by my grandparents in Orangeburg, we made do with the opportunities we created for ourselves. Because that’s all we had . . . My grandparents didn’t have much, but they raised me right. Taught me what most South Carolinians know, character counts.
