Thibault

As far as post-recovery performances went, this one was okay. I could tell Stephanie was hesitant to really use her hand, but we made it work, anyway. Still, I wasn’t fully satisfied—then again, was I ever?—and we scheduled a rehearsal for the middle of the upcoming week.

I was distracted, too. Stephanie had heard from a friend that Puss had ranked first in the intensive program today, and they were celebrating in a trendy bar nearby. I couldn’t believe work had made me miss the first part of the night, and I hurried out of Cabaret Rouge to meet them, hoping they hadn’t gone home yet.

I texted Cody, filling him in about my plans. He passed, claiming he had work to do. Work, really, at eleven on a Friday night? He was one of my best friends, but he really took me for an idiot on that one.

My interpretation of the situation was: he was pissed at Fauve. I had tried explaining to him my epiphany of the day before, but he had called it “a truckload of bullshit,” and me a “pussy-whipped chucklehead.” Fuck him. I had to do things the right way. First, I had to win Loup over. Then, I would make Cody see reason. What we had right here was too good to miss out on.

I entered the bar and was immediately assaulted by a very drunk mass of red hair jumping to my neck.

“Thibault, you came!” she shrieked. How drunk was she? Considering her sway, I guessed it was very. Loup didn’t look much better, either. “I’m so happy. I missed you, we haven’t seen each other in so long.” Puss pouted. She was adorable, still climbing me like a baby koala.

“Hey, Puss, I’m happy to see you, too. I heard you came in first. Congratulations!”

“I want a winner’s kiss,” she ordered, an equally inebriated Mary rolling her eyes behind her. I leaned back a bit, trying to extricate myself from Fauve’s embrace to see her expression. She was serious. I looked back and forth between Puss and Loup, trying to understand this change in situation. When our eyes met, Loup winked. He goddamned winked, and I took it for the authorisation it was. Not that she needed his permission for anything, but I didn’t want to start a fight in the middle of a bar. Men in relationships could be stupid, and I wanted my approach to be subtle. But if I read the situation correctly, I wouldn’t need to tread so carefully after all. It was a damn relief.

Our lips met, and I suddenly remembered why I was so put out the night she had left me hanging. Kissing her felt like fireworks. It was both amazing and arousing, and I never ever wanted to stop doing it, even if she tasted like cheap beer and greasy french fries. She smelled like sweat, too.

Theoretically, it was the worst kiss ever. In practice, I never wanted it to stop.

I deepened it, cupping her nape with my right hand and making her open her mouth for me.
