Alexandria Daily Advertiser, Commercial and Political:

1/9/13:

Ran Away, last August, a Negro man Slave, Scipio. He is about 24 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches high, of a yellow complexion, has a down look when spoken to. From the information I got from his wife, who ran away with him, he is lurking about Mr. Thomas Lee's Plantation about 4 miles from Alexandria, where she was taken last. I will give Fifteen Dollars Reward to any person that will bring him home, of Ten, if secure in Jail, so that I get him. William Tompkins. Spotsylvania, Jan. 6–9.

1/11/13:

Thirty Dollars Reward. Absconded on the night of the 8th instant, a Negro Slave named Roderick, About 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, is a likely negro with small features and a down look, he has been several voyages to sea and had on a sailors dress of new black jacket and trowsers, and took with him several other articles of clothing – his parents live at Salesbury, Somerset County, Eastern Shore of Maryland, where it is possible he is gone. The above reward will be paid for apprehending and returning him to this place with all reasonable charges. Masters of vessels and others are warned against harboring or employing him in any way under the severest penalties of the law. William Fowle. January 11.

1/11/13:

Ranaway From the subscriber, living near Pohiek Church, Fairfax County, Virginia-A Negro Man named Hamlet 4 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches high slender made smooth face, common complexion, with two scars on his neck occasioned by the Kings evil. I will give ten dollars reward if taken within the District of Columbia, or 20 dollars if taken 30 miles from Alexandria, or 40 dollars if taken sixty miles from Alexandria and secured in the goal of Alexandria, or delivered to Joseph Sanford in Alexandria. Edward Sanford. Jan. 11.

2/11/13:

Ten Dollars Reward. Ran away, on Saturday the 6th instant, from the subscriber, living in Fairfax county, near the court-house, a Negro Boy, named Spencer, of a black complexion; he has a remarkable wide vacancy between the upper teeth immediately in front of the mouth; had on a light colored roundabout jacket and pantaloons and half worn wool hat. It is probable he is about Alexandria, Washington or Georgetown. Masters of vessels and others are warned against harboring or carrying off said boy. Henry Whaley. February 11.
