4 Conclusion

This study highlighted the usage of BIM and lean management tools in an integrated way to reduce accident rates in construction sites. Accidents have been classified as waste due to their adverse consequences complying with the lean philosophy. For example, in addition to other adverse consequences, accidents can result in the suspension of work on-site which can be classified as ‘waiting’ waste based on lean management principles. All eight waste types of lean management can occur as a result of an accident. Based on the literature review, this study provided cases on the usage of BIM in enhancing OHS performance. Furthermore, this study suggested that the OHS performance of the CI can be enhanced with the help of integrated usage of BIM and lean tools. As accident risks cannot be eliminated entirely, agile principles and tools can support the post-accident phase in case accidents occur despite all these precautions taken. This study is expected to be beneficial to the professionals and academics in the field of BIM usage for enhancing OHS performance in the CI.
