It was lunchtime before he took the time to compose himself and reply to Mr. Milano. He let him know he accepted the job offer and would be available to start immediately. He informed him he was available in the afternoons after three p.m. because he finished at the precinct at one p.m. But also, that he was willing to work until eleven p.m. especially on days when there was a special showing in the gallery.

He hadn’t expected the man to respond the same day, but an hour later, as he left the precinct, his phone chimed with a message. Mr. Milano replied, saying his schedule worked perfectly. He could start work the following day.

Feeling like he was walking on air, Roberto headed home. “Beth! I got the second job. Ma, I got the job I was telling you about,” he announced as soon as he burst through the doors, ecstatic. Telling his family made it even more real. How could he thank God for this blessing? He had no words. Only a full heart.

Later that night, when he went to get ready for bed, he slid to his knees and offered to God a prayer of thanksgiving. “Father in Heaven, thank You for being the God of possibilities. I’m so grateful for this open door. I thank You with my whole heart. I’m glad You chose me for this opportunity, and I won’t ever take it for granted. Thank You, in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.” He crawled into bed and fell asleep.
