Chapter Nineteen

Corelli glanced at the paper she’d removed from her jacket pocket. “I’m going ask you to drop me downtown again if you don’t mind, but first I need to get a few things from my apartment.”

“I don’t mind as long as you don’t complain when I wait for you.”

“You don’t give up do you?” Corelli groaned. “All right it’s a deal.”

Halfway through the yoga session, Corelli started to relax and feel warm. Once again, the major spent a lot of time with her, adjusting positions after asking permission to touch and correcting her breathing. But it wasn’t just her, the major worked personally with each of the twelve men and women in the class.

At the end of the class, Corelli returned her mat, block and weights and picked up her towel to leave but the major stopped her. “Since you’re back, I’m guessing the yoga helped.”

She draped her towel around her neck. “Yeah, I wasn’t breathing exactly right but it still helped.”

“Did it help with the therapy?”

“I’m not in therapy.”

“Shit, Corelli, do the therapy. There’s no reason to feel everything I know you’re feeling, the nightmares, the sleepless nights, the sweats, and the rage eating away at you. No reason at all. I can make a referral if you need a recommendation for a good therapist.”

Damn. Add the major to the list of people pushing her to go to therapy. Corelli used the breathing skill she’d worked on earlier. “I’ve got a good therapist. I just have to make the call. I’m pretty sure I will. Soon.”

“If you’d rather not do one-on-one therapy another option is a PTSD group with other female military. The VA has them and I run some if you’re interested.”

The major threw an arm over Corelli’s shoulder and walked her to the locker room. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to preach, but you know, been there done that. The combination of the yoga with the therapy can speed things up. Let yourself feel good. Life is too short. See you soon, I hope.” She threw a casual salute and went into her next class.

As she pushed through the glass door, Parker jumped out of the car idling in front of the building, immediately alert for threats that Corelli was sure weren’t there. She shifted her gym bag to her shoulder and pulled her collar up against the biting wind before approaching the car. “So?”

Parker straightened. “So what?”

“What do ya think? How do I look?”

Parker glanced away. “You look fine. Why?”

“Come on, Parker, you’re a detective. I know you investigated to make sure I was safe and figured out I was taking a yoga class at Yoga for Warriors. So how do I look?”

“I confess I checked. All the testosterone emanating from the female and male warriors I encountered convinced me you were safe in there.” Parker studied Corelli. “You have some color in your face. You seem tired but relaxed and more…I don’t know, energetic. Shall we go?”

In the car, Parker turned to Corelli. “It’s a good first step.
