Chapter 10

Maxwell

The night had not gone as I had expected. And that was an understatement.

When I made my way over to Oscar’s house after the power went out, I knew I would be doing some level of comforting and hunkering down together. It was never fun to experience a storm, least of all alone. Knowing Oscar was in his brand-new house alone didn’t sit right with me, so I went over to see if he wanted company. But I had not expected the night to be as intense as it had been.

With Oscar alone in a new space, feeling vulnerable and alone in the world, he had turned to me, and I was happy to be that person for him. In reality, we had turned to each other. I couldn’t deny my attraction to him; the desire I had for him was unlike anything I’d ever felt before. He made me want things…

But I was afraid it had maybe sparked something that could never be.

When I woke the next morning, Oscar was still draped over me with his head buried in my groin. He had long since let go of my dick.

Throughout the night, I had had to get up a few times to stoke the fire, and it had run down to ash once again. We had somehow managed to sleep quite late because the sun was blinding outside, ricocheting off the snow and bouncing onto the windows like a sparkly fairyland.

I imagined Oscar would want to play in the snow. Had he gotten a snow suit or a proper hat and gloves yet? He couldn’t play in the snow without them. Frostbite didn’t take long to settle in.

I got up, and Oscar stirred slightly but cuddled back into the pillow. He was peaceful like that and absolutely adorable.

The blinking light on the stove told me the power had returned. I was surprised by it but incredibly thankful. The storm had been intense for about an hour but had moved on quickly, leaving us with a good bit of snow and some ice, which was already beginning to melt as the air warmed.

I grabbed some ingredients from the fridge and pantry and set to making breakfast for Oscar. He would be hungry after his long night. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed in his little headspace for a while. Coming down from that level of fear would take some time.

A few minutes later, he padded into the kitchen. His cheeks pinked, his smile hesitant. I could see he was afraid of the awkwardness, so I just had to make it not awkward.

“Good morning, Oscar,” I said. “I’m getting started on some breakfast. Why don’t you run upstairs and brush your teeth?”

“The power is back?” He peeked out the window, and his eyes were wide. They sparkled like fallen snow.

“Yeah, the crews work pretty quickly this time of year. We’re one of the lucky ones.”

“That’s good.” He crossed his arms and hugged himself. “Thank you for staying with me.
