After three hours of riding and wheel screeching he could tell that the train had journeyed its way to the coast. The pain in his leg intensified. To his left was a body of crystal-teal water. There were boats fishing. A distant body of land was enclosed. Mike could not tell if people lived on the island because there were volumes of trees on the outskirts. Millions of ripples danced on the surface where the wan sun shined. A fish would flop every so often. The radiant light peered through a collage of beautiful clouds: hues of red, dashes of lavender, shades of fire-orange, and puffs of greyness that had to be painted by God. There was light instead of the expected darkness.

To his right were older homes. He saw Root Beer brown colored horses and their yearling. Clotheslines waved, carrying cherished family possessions like old socks and early age t-shirts. Old broken-down trucks were parked on side yards with colored tarps. There was a soccer field surrounded by trees and its goals were white and rusty. Oregon or Washington? Canada? How far have I traveled? After dark the train began to slow down. The wheels and the track made an irksome screech/grind. A wooden sign flashed by, “Seattle, Washington.” A city of lights was afar. It came closer and closer. The station was in sight. Mike took one giant breath and jumped off the slow-moving train. He rolled into thick dead weeds. The stunt man brushed himself off and pulled out his solar flashlight. The light was weak, but gave guidance.
