Chapter 14

Becky, of course, was used to being humiliated and chastised. She had run off in some direction and I felt like shit having put her up to it. Fortunately, it was easy to track her in the snow. She was out in one of the outbuildings near the edge of the property. It was a large tin barn that stored the three snowmobiles. I heard her near the back in what looked like an old office. I walked in and looked around. There was a picture on the wall of a man holding up a trophy standing by one of the snowmobiles, another with a dog sled team, and then in a third he was kneeling with a massive elk. There sitting by him was a little girl.

"She hates me," Becky said.

"No, I think she just wants you to be different, like everyone else," I said. Becky looked at me trying to digest that mind teaser. I knelt in front of her.

"Hey, you Ok?" I asked her, genuinely concerned.

"I'm a slut, a whore," she exclaimed.

"No, I told you to do it," I said. "It's my fault. I should have asked a few more questions."

"How would that have helped? I wanted to suck him anyway. If it wasn’t him, it would have been someone else," she said.

"Well, maybe I could have made sure you didn't get caught," I said and smiled at her.

"You're sweet," she said, and we kissed. "This is fucking weird."

"Who is the guy in the picture?" I asked, trying to lighten the moment. I had a hunch who it was, but I wanted her to share it with me.

"My dad. He was great. He died. He was a real man's man, I guess you would say. He would do anything for us." she said and wiped tears off of her cheeks. "You remind me of him."

She was cold and shaking. I suggested we go back to the house and get warm. I convinced her to take a bath and told her I would be up in a minute.
