Let Me Forgive: Prayer

I am confident that Your word, when You send it out, always produces fruit. It will accomplish all that You want it to, and it will prosper everywhere You send it. With this in mind, enable me to speak Your word with boldness.

Let me not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but transform me into a new person by changing the way I think, for Your will is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of Your love, I want always to be humble and gentle, patient with others, making allowance for their faults. Let me remember that You forgave me, so I must forgive others. Give me wisdom and patience, for it is to Your glory for me to overlook offenses. Because I am one of Your chosen people, clothe me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Help me to get rid of all anger, rage, and malice.

LORD, Your word says not to hold anything against anyone, to forgive him so that You will forgive me. Repeatedly, You say that if I forgive others who sin against me, You will forgive my sins against You. Jesus told Peter that he was to forgive his brother up to seventy times seven. Let me be as merciful as that.

Whenever I am angry, do not let me sin. Let me forgive quickly, and do not let the sun go down on my anger. I know an angry person starts fights and a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin. Let me not be that type of person. Likewise, help me not make friends with angry or hot-tempered people, or I may learn to be like them.

I almost feel like the one who has hurt me is my enemy at this time. Instead of taking revenge, which I feel like doing, let me remember that Your word says that I am instead to feed him and give him drink, and in this way heap burning coals of shame on his head. Let me be reconciled to my brother or sister before I next go before Your altar.

Test me, O LORD, examine my mind and heart, for Your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in Your truth. Teach my Your way, O LORD, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided and forgiving heart, that I may honor You. Let me live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loves me and gave Himself as a sacrifice to take away my sins. Let me be full of light from the Lord and make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. And let me always give thanks for everything to You my Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
