CHAPTER 18
CADE
He runs his thumbs down my torso, and I grip the table and groan at the depth of comfort his touch brings. Iâm overwhelmed and exhausted and torn, but he kneads the tension from my body, leaving it only in my mind. I need something to take over my brain as well, so I focus on his hands. His firm grip and broad palms, and I shift until my ass presses against him like weâre going to go doggy style right here. The thought takes over, and I let another moan pour from my lips, a little breathier this time.
âFeel okay?â he asks, and I mutter a yes. Iâm not exactly subtle about what I want as I grind my ass against him, and his cock hardens. I want him to reach around and grab my tits, and slip a hand between my legs and drive the memories right out of me. But he doesnât. He runs his thumbs up the sides of my spine and massages my shoulders. The pressure brings us tighter together. Most men would not have wasted one second after I positioned myself for sex and started pawing me. Stripping me and screwing me.
Then I remember his words, how I think men only think of sex, that Iâm single-minded in my hatred of men.
He came over here to comfort you, so shut the fuck up, Cadence, and let him comfort you. I scold myself and refocus on his hands, trailing down my body along my ribs and to the edge of my sweater. Tears burn behind my lids as I find more ways to exorcise these emotions.
On his way up, he slips his hands under my shirt and follows the waist of my pants, lighting a fire along my flesh.
âThat feels amazing,â I hum as he slips his hand to my stomach. Okay, here he goes, heâll go straight south, but again he doesnât. He turns me to face him with hands on my hips, and the concern in his eyes turns me to goo. Iâm unsure what to do with this kind of attention, so I cast my gaze down, not wanting the discomfort of staring into his eyes while he explores the parts of my body that give him no pleasure. I still have tears clinging to my lashes, those few sneaky bastards that leaked out in a moment of weakness under his comforting touch.
âLook at me,â he commands, and I obey his tone. âAre you okay?â
I nod, but those goddamn eyes. He doesnât believe me. He didnât the last three times he asked, either. Iâm not sure why I think heâll believe me now. A sheepish smile twitches my lips as I shake my head.
âI want to shut off my mind, Jet. Even for a while.â Itâs the most desperate thing Iâve ever said to him.
He scoops me up by my ass and sets me on the table, and I grab at his shoulders in reaction to the swift move. Heâs between my legs, my knees squeezing his hips, and he massages my thighs.
