THIERRY

The air was chilly as I stepped out of my vehicle. I’d just left the bank after the paperwork had cleared. Rolling my neck and cracking it into place, I took a deep breath and then strolled through the front door of the building. It was eleven a.m. and there was a cute receptionist sitting by the door.

“Can I help you?” she asked.

I ignored her and strolled on towards the back.

“Sir!” she called out.

Her words fell on deaf ears as I kept on going. A few people at desks looked up but there was one who was intently staring at me. I could see what my ex-wife saw in him. He was a good-looking guy. He was fit, and he had a nice smile, shit a female would go for.

I didn’t stop at his desk though, instead throwing a wink at him. My gestures immediately got under his skin as his face shifted into something insidious.

Not bothering to knock, I strolled right on into the general manager’s office.

“Who the hell are you?” he stared back at me.

“You should have gotten a fax about forty-five minutes ago from Atlanta Trust and Bond.”

The man frowned. “What? I didn’t’ get anything. Buddy, I don’t know who the hell you are…”

My hand raised to stop his words. “I’m now the owner of this fine establishment.”

The man looked flustered and got up from his desk and moved around me. I followed him out into the hallway. He picked up the fax from the machine and carefully read over it.

“Effective immediately,” I watched as he went ashen and almost ghost like. “Camden Park Audi is now Knowles-Scarpetta Audi.”

“Yes, yes sir,” the general manager still hadn’t recovered.

I nodded and headed back out the way I’d came but this time I wanted to stop by my new employee’s desk. Shaun Allen stared up at me, scowling.

“The general manager will let everyone know, but I wanted to tell you face to face…”

He stood up. “You ain’t got a motherfucking thing to tell me, man.”

I smiled. “There’s the door, Shaun. Go on and quit. But you won’t get another job in Atlanta.”

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“This is my city, Shaun. I don’t know what my wife has been telling you…”

“Ex-wife,” he reminded me.

I nodded. “For fucking now. But she belongs to me, Shaun. Always has.”

He leaned in, the dumb motherfucker. He had no idea that he should have been quaking in his peeling dress shoes. “Her pussy is mine. I had it this morning for breakfast while your son was sleeping in the next room.”

Red.

It was starting up behind me eyes and I had to remember myself. There was a gun at the base of my spine, and I wanted to shoot him so bad. Blow his fucking brains all over this fucking car lobby and the shiny detailed cars on display.

“Like I said, you won’t get another job around here friend. I’d buckle up and play ball because those two-baby mama’s need their child support checks. Does Diamond know about those kids by the way?”

He stepped back then, caught off guard.
