Coven Call and Answer

MOC signals for the start of the Call and Answer by ringing the chimes

MOC motions all to walk deosil around the circle. When requested by the HPS, individual Covener begins to recite.

Some Coveners play instruments or hum as they walk.

MOC:

It’s a wondrous time of year

As we align with life force near

We sense and feel her song

And hear her strike the gong

Hark! - Hark!

It’s the Midway mark

Of the year in light

As Ostara bright

Covener:

Light and power increase

As frost and coldness cease

In lighter green the land is dressed

Warmth and light by sun invest

Some Coveners repeat in refrain: Hark! - Hark!, - its the Midway mark...

Covener:

The sun is higher on the solar arc

Standing at the equidistant mark

Of equal night and day

Onwards, the solar quarter way

Some Coveners repeat in refrain: Hark! - Hark!, - its the Midway mark...

Covener:

Energies dip t’wards the light

Gaining power in warmth and bright

Enveloped in growth and green

A spectacle as yearly seen

Covener:

Waters from the ice are freed

Feeding life in seed

Midway in the waxing year

Quickening life force clear

By now more Coveners softly sing in scat as background to the recitation and the refrain: Midway mark, mark... mark..., Midway mark, midway...midway...

Covener:

In his youthful adolescence

Our Sun God makes his presence

By stronger suns ray

To herald in the way

For his Litha climax

At season’s full wax

Refrain and scat vocal

Covener:

As One is the Whole and the Whole forms One

Our Goddess’ soul is nourished by the Sun

As growth all round abounds

In all of life resounds

Refrain and scat vocal

Covener:

Myriad of scents and smells

Cast Ostara’s spells

Opposing colors in light and shade

By our God and Goddess made

Refrain and scat vocal

Covener:

As polar forces here combine

By Goddess aspect trine

As Ostara’s maiden nature bound

Creation’s life force in sight and sound

Refrain and scat vocal

Covener:

Our Goddess is elected

The our Sun God directed

In beauty bounty to grow and swell

To Winter’s cold and darkness quell

During the Coven’s Call and Answer, the HPS goes to kneel under her shroud of light blue at the Eastern Quarter. She is surrounded by flowers scattered around her, notably yellow, golden ones, such as daffodils. Soft conga drum beat with ever increasing bass bongo drums in background.

Glockenspiel by the MOC signals end to all music.

MOC sings/ recites, with part Coven accompaniment, while others hum:

RETURN OF THE GODDESS

Behold the calmness of the lake

The beckoning words our Lady spake:

“I shall return!” she said

To provide the life force, fed

From Yule’s Sun Child well recovered

And Imbolc’s lusting boy well mothered

Our Goddess to Earth returns

As the sun ever stronger burns

Behold, the Lady of the Lake has entered

Via the Eastern Portal centered

Freed at the Underworld gateway, symbol of our Western

Quarter

Our Lady of the Lake and Water

Released from Water’s ice

As Maiden, Goddess aspect thrice

From her Winter’s sojourn she arises

Rebirth, her creation now comprises

Mother of the Energy flow

To till, to seed, to sow
