Chapter Twelve

The heated pools beneath the castle were rich with magick, alive with a power that sank into the very pores and eased the spirit. They weren’t as powerful as the pools of silver magick that could heal even the gravest injury and restore power lost during grueling battle. But those pools were not soothing, nor filled with comfort. They were tempestuous, increasing magick, and strength.

Silken water splashed now against the rock-lined walls, creating a haunting, delicate rhythm of peace. The precious gems embedded in the walls and ceiling sent prisms of light dancing over the water, like magick itself, creating a rainbow mystery within the shallow depths that stroked over her naked body.

Between her thighs, the undefended flesh of her newly shorn pussy ached with sensitivity, with the memory of magick suckling at the hard little bud that ached with increasing demand. Now, as she lay back on the smooth slanted stone just beneath the waters edge and stared up at the colorful explosion of light from the gems above, she began to have grave misgivings about the step she had just taken.

Why had she had been so determined? Had she taken leave of her senses?

No, those bedamned Wizards had stolen her senses with their touch. They had ripped through her defenses, her fears, and become so much a part of her that she did not know if she could survive without the Joining. Sweet Mother Sentinel, she ached.

She was on fire for their touch, their magick. Every part of her soul reached out to them, despite the knowledge that she had made a grave error.

She, Keeper of the Land of Covenan, had given her heart, and was now ready to give her soul to Wizards she could never hold, to men who could never accept what she was, and what she needed to survive.

She was a warrioress, her magick, her heart, tied to the land in a way so elemental that the bonds could never be broken. And they were Wizards, men who commanded an army of warriors whose lives were in another land. A land so far removed from hers that there was no chance of bridging the chasm.

She should have gone to them when this strange courtship first began, she now knew. She should have told them the truth of herself, rather than hiding the knowledge as she had been advised to do.

In times past, before the separation, Sorceress Keepers were the most sought after, the most courted in all the lands. Great riches were offered merely for the chance to court, and later, in the search for power and greatness, they were forced to hide, to shield their powers for fear of kidnapping.
