“Princess Kandake,” Shen said. “I do not trust this man. He is sending an assassin with you to the marketplace.”

“I do not trust him, either,” she said.

“Then perhaps we should not go. Or at least wait until Natasen is free to go with you.”

“I must speak with Nakhtnebef and this opportunity to do so away from the palace could not be better. Natasen must spend as much time as is needed with every one of our warriors. It is vital that he ensure their allegiance to the throne of Nubia, alone.” She placed her hand upon Shen’s shoulder. “You will be with me. Whoever this Chatha may be, he will not overcome the skill of the warrior of Scythia’s Sovereign. And do not forget, the skill of a Nubian warrior will be added to yours.”
