A meal, a full nightâs rest, and new gauze for my blisters were exactly what I needed. When the sun came through the windows the next morning, I felt more like myself. I hadnât bothered with taking off the robe as I was too afraid to get dressed after everything that had happened. The robe was almost like my safe haven. Though it was worn, it felt soft against my skin and brought me comfort in a strange way.
But with the sun came a new sense of purpose. We would be out of this village soon enough and back on the road, far away from strangers and perverts. I emptied the bag on the bed and rifled through everything Ryven had left me. A pair of pants, a long tunic, and leather boots plunked onto the thin mattress. I stared at it all laid out before me. How was I supposed to get my undergarments on with these clothes? I could manage the small cami that went over my breasts, but my bottoms? It was merely a slip to be worn under dresses, I couldnât wear that with pants. I had never met a woman to wear pants before Reva. What had she done? I pinched the bridge of my nose as I closed my eyes. What did most women do? I had never had a mentor to help me through these things, obviously, or I would have known about the thick fabric to soak up my blood moon and Moon Root to help with the pain.
I pressed my lips together as I thought about it. Reva would have gone without. I shoved my tattered and ruined gown into the bag, then my bottom slip and pulled it closed. I didnât want anyoneâRyven especiallyâto know I wasnât wearing undergarments. The camisole fit snuggly over my breasts and the tunic swallowed me whole. It was entirely too big. The pants were a bit snug and rubbed against my nether regions in a foreign way but the range of motion I had acquired with them was unmatched. If I wasnât careful, I would fall in love with menâs clothing. The boots were a little too big but thankfully, Ryven had gotten me thick wool socks. They would fill up all the extra space. The bag felt ominous on my back. I went to open the door before I realized I was forgetting something. I rushed back to the lumpy bed and pulled my knife from beneath the pillow. It was still in its sheath so I slipped it into my boot, similar to the way Ryven had.
Ryven was waiting for me on the other side of the door. His hair was wet and slicked back from his face. Water droplets had collected on the tops of his eyelashes and slid down his angular cheeks. His new clothes clung to him tighter than the otherâs had and I had a difficult time pulling my eyes from his heaving muscular chest.
âWhy are you all wet?â I asked as I pulled the door closed behind me.
