Chapter 9

I woke up alone. I was in the room by myself. The sunlight was shining in the window; so I knew it was the next morning. I was hoping I would still get to go home. The door opened and Lena walked in.

She smiled at me. “You look better today. Are you ready to go home?”

I nodded. “I’m way past ready.”

“I’m going to get your things packed. Nicholas is getting all the paperwork taken care of.” She went to work gathering my things and packing them away.

“Have you talked to Patrick?” I asked cautiously.

She shook her head. “I know what he is going to say. I think it is best if I just plan for the worst.”

I watched her wondering how much I should say. “What if he doesn’t react how you think he will? Shouldn’t you at least find out?”

She nodded. “I plan to; once I have a backup plan. I need a place to go when he freaks out.”

I sighed. “That makes sense, I guess.” I should probably be doing the same thing … planning for the worst. Nicholas was going to flip out if I told him I was pregnant; especially if he believed he wasn’t the father.

Nicholas walked in the room, ending the conversation. He smiled as he took my hand. “You’re all set to go. Are you ready to be home?”

I nodded. “Did you bring me some clothing?”

He nodded. He walked to one of the bags and retrieved a dress, panties, a bra, and a pair of sandals.

I sat up, swinging my feet over the bed. He went to work helping me dress. Once that was done, he brushed my hair. Lena finished packing a few minutes earlier. She was sitting, watching him silently. After I was ready, Jack walked in and grabbed a few bags. Nicholas grabbed the others and followed him out.

“He loves you,” Lena said breaking the silence.

I smiled nervously. “Maybe. It’s hard to get him to admit it.”

She scoffed as she stood. “At least he shows it.” She suddenly brightened. “Are you ready?”

I nodded and slowly got to my feet. “I’m more than ready.”

Nicholas walked back in the room as Lena and I made sure we weren’t missing anything. Nicholas insisted I ride down in a wheelchair. He didn’t care about my protests.

Once I was safely in the car, I felt a little better. Lena promised to stop by later on. I was just glad to be going home. Nicholas held my hand. His thumb rubbed the back of my hand as Jack drove toward the apartment.

Jack parked in front of the building, and Nicholas helped me out of the car. I liked how his arm felt around me, as he led me into the apartment building. I leaned into him as the elevator moved slowly to the top floor.

He pressed his lips to the top of my head. “Beth is making lunch. Once we eat, I plan on taking you to bed.”

I smiled, biting my lip. “Can we skip lunch?”

He laughed.
