Chapter
Twenty-One
Queen Eliana Pearce of Barsil
Eliana Pearce laid her hands on the amulet and infused into it the power of protection from poison. Her hand glowed a brilliant purple that then leeched into the gemstone in the center of the amulet. She felt a faint loss, as she always experienced whenever she gave magic into something other than herself. When she healed, she felt no such drain, but to give the magic into something non-living, like an amulet, left her feeling exhausted and terrible.
Then, she lifted the amulet, which felt a tad bit heavier than it had before she had infused magic within the artifact. She met the gaze of the elf standing before her.
âThis amulet will protect you from the basiliskâs venom,â she said. âDoubtless, the Sacred Mother would not have you fall and die to one of the beasts, but the protection offered is from her as well through me and the magic she has graced me with.â
âI will bring you back the basilisk fang you seek,â Lenna Danorin said solemnly.
âThank you kindly.â Eliana pressed her hands together in front of her chest.
The elf fell to one knee, her head down, facing the ground, and then she stood and left the room.
The queen turned and crossed over to the arched window to gaze out at the heath and moorland, the rolling hills, the low-laying flat countryside that stretched until the impressive mountains in the distance.
Near the southernmost point of the kingdom, in the city of Thyasera, stretched Terramore Bridge that connected her kingdom, Barsil, to Tarragona.
For many years, nay, centuries, the elves of Barsil and the berserkers of Tarragona had fought and argued. They had not often warred, but they had never truly trusted one another.
Queen Eliana reached up to touch her golden circlet crown. It was infused with many pink and red gemstones arranged to look like flowers. Her gown was fashioned after plants, the color a golden green hue. The bodice hugged her chest, the two sides coming together and looking like petals. Beneath her breasts was a yellow "V" design that then flowed into the skirt that fell from her waist in four panels, making her long, lithe legs visible with every step she took. Her shoulders were bare, as were her arms, yet fabric draped from a circle about her arms just beneath the shoulder, the material falling down like a cloak that circled around her arms when she stood still. A vine was her belt, and she wore a heavy golden necklace with a black onyx in the center, a huge oval stone. On her feet, she wore slippers that curled to a point at the toes, the slippers attached to a twining thread the same gold as the footwear all the way up her calves and midway up her thighs.
She turned and dipped her hand into the basin of water on a small table. This room was off her bedchambers, and few were allowed inside. Lenna Danorin had been caught trying to steal
