“What’s happening here?” Loki thundered, making his best impression of Odin when he was pissed.

At least he got everyone’s attention. Frigg stopped screaming, while Odin stared at him as if he were dog shit on the bottom of his shoe. Loki didn’t care.

Frey and Freya seemed relieved to see him. They didn’t let go of Frigg, which was probably a good idea, and instead, they dragged her closer to Loki.

“Thank the gods you’re here,” Frey said. “We weren’t sure we’d be able to hold her back much longer.”

“I’ll help,” a feminine voice said.

Loki looked up, surprised to see Sigyn. And dammit, she was the last person who needed to be here, considering Sam was present.

What could Loki say, though? Sigyn was his wife, and he hadn’t told Sam about her yet. He’d almost forgotten he had a wife, to be honest. He couldn’t remember why they’d gotten married exactly, but it had been thousands of years ago. They’d drifted apart almost right away, and they’d had entirely separate lives since then.

Yet, there she was, walking toward Frigg and opening her arms to her. At least Frigg finally stopped trying to get to Odin and Vali and threw herself into Sigyn’s arms.

“Vali killed Hodr,” Frey said after letting go of Frigg.

“Give me more details.”

Frey’s gaze flickered to Sam, but thankfully, he didn’t ask who Sam was. “I’m not sure what happened when Frigg found Hodr, but I can tell you what I know. Freya and I heard screaming, and we rushed outside. We had to go into Hodr’s house, and we found her crying over his body. Vali was there, too, sitting in an armchair and sipping some whiskey.” Frey’s tone hardened. “He didn’t even try to hide the fact that he’d been the one to kill Hodr. He’s unrepentant, and when we dragged Frigg out, he followed us. We kept her in our house for a bit, but she snuck out, and we caught up to her here. Vali was here, and he came out of the house to confront her, which ended in the screaming fight you walked in on.”

Loki turned his attention to Vali. He looked smug, and like Frey had said, unrepentant. He didn’t care that he’d killed Hodr. He didn’t care that what happened to Baldur had been an accident. Odin had created him as a weapon, and he did his master’s bidding.

“Why did you do it?” Loki asked Vali even though he already knew the answer to that question.

“Because he killed Baldur. I told you I was created for revenge and that I would get it. I’m not done yet, either.”

Loki resisted the urge to punch Vali’s smug face. So far, no one had said anything about Sam, and Loki didn’t want to draw attention to him.

He couldn’t deny that Sam’s presence was soothing and keeping him calm in a way he hadn’t expected. He’d always had a temper, and in a normal situation, he would already have snapped at Vali and probably hit him.
