5.1 Research Methodology

The focus of this book is to answer the question “What kind of awareness does the management have about the social impact of their Artificial Intelligence (AI) product or service?” by conducting expert interviews. Therefore, the focus is on the geographic central European area without any consideration of international cultural influence. The aim of this research is to further investigate the management understanding by answering the research question based on five sub-questions. First, to create a fundamental background and an understanding of the current research and literature state (Floridi et al., 2018; Pagallo, 2017; Indurkhya, 2019; Ransbotham et al., 2019; Siau & Wang, 2018; Bostrom & Yudkowsky, 2014; Tegmark, 2018; Rothenberger, Fabian & Arunov, 2019), research about moral and ethics in AI and their methodologies has been done. In the second step, the empirical research was done by qualitative expert interviews and has been analyzed via content analysis by following the approach of Mayring (2015) and Kuckartz (2018). Based on the research question and the outcome of the literature study, the following main categories have been defined for generating a structured interview guideline.

Motivation

The main reason why management started to develop an AI product or service.
