“Sometimes I feel like the girls are cutting me off,” Juliet said.

Victoria smiled and shook her head. “I am sure it is only an impression,” she said, pouring more tea. Miranda shook her head, refusing a refill.

“Elizabeth and Matilda are obviously close,” the lay nun said, “just for being sisters. And maybe the new babysitting job is something Elizabeth and Cindy now have in common, and maybe this is bringing them closer.”

“But you are one of the family,” Victoria hastened to say. “And I am sure that talking it out with the girls will set everything straight.”

“But it would be better if it was you that brought up the subject with the girls,” Miranda added. “We don’t want to step in and, you know, act like teachers.”

Victoria chuckled. “Yes, we are not teachers and pupils, we are a family. Older women helping younger women to grow up as godly wives and good mothers. And it’s been a long road, isn’t it?”

Juliet sipped her tea. “Yes.”

“Talk it out with Elizabeth,” Miranda said. “She is the most mature of the girls, and she’s your friend. I am sure you will find a solution together, and you’ll see it was only a false impression.”
