I can’t shake that haunting feeling that Brady is going to come after all of us. One by one.

It was a chaotic shit show after I broke that realization to the group. Everyone was talking over one another, panicking, aside from Silas and me.

After they calmed down, Becca instructed everyone that they would have a security detail that would be assigned to them. Silas and I turned that down—we are our own security detail.

Keanu and Max came by with a few new faces, and they gave us all panic buttons. If we see or hear anything or are in danger, we press it, and it will alert them to our location.

Sophie and Rose seemed far more comfortable with their new bodyguards and their panic buttons. I’m glad it will bring them some peace, and hopefully, these guys can do a better job than the cops did for Stella.

We spent the day waiting to hear from the cops regarding any progress made to locate Stella. But no call came. With each passing second, I grew more and more restless and irritated.

I retreated into my mind for a little while, needing a break from the overwhelming emotions and chaos of our little group. But I was only able to count to three hundred forty-two before Silas noticed that I’d checked out and nudged me back to the present.

I am equal parts thankful and hateful that he can see when I go inside of my mind to escape. It’s addictive there, and sometimes, I get stuck, but that’s impossible with him around because he wants me to be present, to feel everything. Feeling everything is draining, but I’m trying.

Silas and I are on our way back to his house with the pups.

When we pull in the driveway, I’m already scanning the area, looking for a shadow that’s out of place. Hell, I’ve been doing this since we left my parents’ house. But everything looks normal.

He parks in the garage tonight and keeps the truck doors locked until the garage door fully closes.

“I’m going to check out the house. Stay here,” Silas orders, pulling his handgun out.

“Was your system triggered?” I ask him, my mouth drying out from growing anxiety.

“No. But I want to be careful.”

Then, he commands, “Peach, search,” and her ears prick up in anticipation.

He unlocks the door to the house and opens it, letting Peach inside, who takes off on a mission, Silas right behind her.

I’m not actually going to stay in here, am I?

Nope.

Slipping my hand in my chest bag, I pull out my small handgun, Fluffy, and instruct the dogs to wait there.

I pull the door open and step inside, surprised to see he left all the lights off.

I hear him click his tongue, which I’m sure is a command for Peach.

“What are you doing in here, Brooke?” Silas whispers without losing focus.

“Helping. I’m not a damsel that needs your saving. I want to help slay the dragon,” I whisper back as we move through the house.

“You are going
