Chapter 7

Badrick and Adio had treated the ladies to a dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, and it was quite good. They had stayed at the table after eating, sharing a second bottle of wine, and enjoying each other's company. Badrick and Adio were funny together, telling stories about each other, funny incidents, and experiences they had shared on the island. When they had finished the last of the second bottle, Badrick had paid the check and Adio asked if they wanted to move the party up to their room. Katherine and Vicky agreed, and they all rode the elevator up to the room.

The room wasn't quite a suite, but it was a comfortable space. The tiled entryway had the bathroom and the closet right off to the left, and there was a minibar, a small sink, and a few cabinets over the countertop to the right. From there the bedroom was visible, a carpeted area with two queen-sized beds still made up nice and neat with fluffy pillows and comforters. A couch was placed against the opposite wall, a TV and a mini-fridge alongside it. Beyond that, a sliding glass door led out onto the small railed balcony with two Adirondack-style chairs on the concrete floor.

"Wow, this is a nice room," Katherine commented.

"It's not as nice as the suite you had on the island," Badrick admitted. "But it's the best we could do with the budget we have."

"It's perfect," Vicky said. "I like the balcony."

"You can see most of the city from there. Can I show you?" Adio offered.

"Go ahead," Badrick commented. "I'll make us all a drink."

"Okay, but nothing too strong," Katherine joked.

The ladies were standing out on the balcony with Adio, taking in a view of the western city skyline. The city looked so peaceful and happy from this height. Lights twinkled in far-off buildings and even the flow of traffic below them seemed to be relaxed and flowing smoothly.

"This view is fantastic," Vicky said. "The city looks so easy from up here."

"It's very big," Adio said. "Compared to the towns we have on the island."

"Well, the buildings are tall, but other than that, it's not all that different," Katherine countered.

"Who's ready for drinks?" Badrick called out as he stepped out onto the balcony with them.

He had beer for himself and Adio, but he had made mimosas for the ladies.

"Badrick, you remembered," Katherine said, taking her offered drink.

"Of course," he said.

"What is it?" Vicky asked, taking her glass as well.

"It's a mimosa," Katherine said. "It's just champagne and orange juice, but they're so good."

Vicky took a sip. "That really is good."

"He's an amazing bartender," Katherine said. "He made a few of these for me in Jamaica."

"One or two," Badrick deferred with a smile.

"Or twelve," Katherine laughed.

The wind outside was still a bit chilly, so they moved back into the room, with Katherine and Vicky sitting on the couch while Adio and Badrick sat on the edge of one of the beds. They made some more small talk, but after they finished their drinks, the girls decided to heat up the action a little bit.
