CHAPTER THREE

Tara Hills

Brooke directed me through a series of lefts and rights that left me lost in our small town. Eventually, she had me park in the garage beneath the Union Business Center downtown. “You could have just said ‘Take me to the Union Business Center, downtown. Is it that hard?’”

“I enjoy telling you what to do.”

We parked near elevator three and sat in silence for a few minutes before a tinted red sports car pulled up and parked directly in front of the elevator door. I watched Orlando Molina get out of the car’s driver's seat and press the button to head up. The elevator door opened immediately and out stepped a tiny brunette wearing a pink A-line dress with dark pink roses on the sleeves. She didn’t even look at Orlando from under her black brim hat.

I watched as she opened the driver’s side door of the red sports car and slid herself in, the mid-thigh hem riding up a bit and exposing more of her toned caramel legs. She closed the door behind her and sped off. I noticed Brooke note the license plate in her phone. “Okay. We can go now.”

“Sorry, darling. I’ve got work to do here, too.” I got out of the car and walked towards the elevator. I heard a pissed off Brooke tsk at me as I closed the door.
