Chapter 13 - Sunday Disaster

I took a deep breath as I walked through the front door of my mother's home. I didn't want to be here, I didn't want to answer the million and one questions as to why Titan wasn't here. I didn't want to have to deal with the disapproving stares and the looks that always made me feel as if regardless of what I did I would never measure up, but I brought my self into the den of the devil anyway, and it was for one reason and one reason only. My brother.

I took another deep breath. I had to remember why I was here, it wasn't for my mother or my sister it was for my brother and for him I would walk through fire and face the devil himself.

Steeling myself for the usual reaction, I followed the sound of their familiar voices towards the direction of the kitchen and once in the entranceway I locked eyes on the person who always had my back. One of the few people besides my dad, who always believed in me and told me I deserved the world and that I could get it as long as I worked hard, and gave it my all. Smiling at me as I smiled back at him I opened my arms as he made a beeline my way and picked me up off my feet.

“Rae, baby girl I've missed you!” He said as he kissed me on the forehead.

“Boy hurry up and put that girl down before you hurt yourself, you know she’s too big for you to be picking up like that.” My mother said as she playfully smacked him on the behind with a dish towel.

“Momma don't start with that shit, Rae is not fat, and she isn't heavy. She’s thick and ain't nothing wrong with a thick woman. Trust me, you have no idea how many of my friends I have to check on a daily basis because they stay asking me about my little sister, wondering if she's single and begging me for her number.” He said still holding me in the air and in his arms.

And this was why I loved him so much, because for every time momma would try and tear me down he would be right there to help build me back up.

“Hmmm.” My mother said as she rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to the pot on the stove.

“Ignore her, you’re not fat, you're beautiful.” He said setting me back on my feet as Gianna mimicked my mother's gesture and rolled her eyes.

“Keep it up Anna you're always quick to throw shade, but Rae is out in the real world doing real world things and taking care of business. She isn't still living at home with her mama at twenty nine with no job, expecting to be babied and taken care of. You should be taking notes!” He said as he took a bite of his apple and pointed at Gianna who had a scowl planted firmly on her face.
