Harry told Marigold that he would be on the deck later, and if she wanted, they would go to dinner. And maybe his friend Jack and nurse Cynthia might just join them. She looked disappointed at that, but smiled and said, OK.

At 6:00 PM, Harry came on deck carrying a foldable canvas chair that Vince had designed, and set it up near the gangplank. He had a good view of the building and would be able to see when Marigold came out. At 6:15, Jack joined him. He was carrying his own canvas chair.

“You never know how long they’re going to be,” said Jack. “Your girlfriend is fine with us joining the party?” he asked.
