Chapter 15

“Of course she’ll stay at the cabin with me,” Mrs. Talbot responded when her son, slightly abashed, admitted what had gone on earlier that night on the Ramsay porch.

Alec had brought her back to his house, where Mrs. Talbot welcomed them back with hot cups of tea. Lisette had already gone to bed and was sleeping soundly.

“She’ll be happy at the news,” Mrs. Talbot told them, stirring sugar into her cup. “She had a grand night tonight, she told me so.”

“She seemed to be content,” Alec observed, sipping his tea, which as usual was too strong. His mother seemed to be on an eternal quest to make tea that had the power of whiskey without intoxicating anyone.
