Chapter 7

Somewhere between business and friendship, the lines had gotten a little squiggly. Blu lay on his stomach with his legs swinging behind him as he looked at the gallery floor plan. Three weeks of planning had brought them here. Blu had a show. "This space is all for me?" From the dimensions he'd managed to find, it looked to be almost as big as Jackson's loft.

"Well, that depends," Tom said, and crammed a wonton in his mouth.

"On what?" Blu held a prawn cracker loosely in his fingers and nibbled at its edge. He loved Chinese food.

"Could you fill it?" Tom wiped his hands on the sweatpants he was wearing before picking up a carton and chopsticks.

Could he fill it? Blu smiled brightly. "This is really happening." He was going to show his artwork.

Tom grinned, licked his lips, and leaned forward, catching Blu's mouth with his in a kiss.

Those damn squiggly lines. Blu was pretty sure this was a date, perhaps even their third date. He chewed on his lip thoughtfully. Maybe he was being presumptuous. Tom had offered him money and friendship. Maybe that's all this was. Tom had a big heart, and he genuinely seemed excited for Blu. They'd hooked up several times across the weeks. They'd grouped canvases together, considered the best galleries to show in, decided how to appeal to buyers, and somehow, he now had a website showing samples of his work. Tom had been truly excellent and beyond efficient in his professional capacity.

"So, I was thinking," Tom started, "we're pretty much done on the business side of things. We have a gallery lined up with a workable date. You have enough amazing pieces to fill it and the building next door." The carton of food was back on the floor, and Blu was suddenly aware of Tom moving closer. "Apart from a tiny bit of paperwork once the gallery gets back to me…" He got down on his stomach beside Blu. "This is all happening." Tom was warm as he leaned his shoulder against Blu's. "So, back to the thinking part."

Blu turned his head slightly and looked at Tom. "What?"

"I talked about priorities when we first met. What would you think if I said mine were perhaps changing and—"

Tom was struggling to find the words he wanted, but for Blu, they were the exact ones he'd needed to hear. "Yes," he blurted out.

"You didn't let me finish my poorly rehearsed pick-up line."

Blu laughed and leaned forward. He looked into Tom's eyes as he said again, "Yes." He smiled and moved the final inch, pressing his lips against Tom's in a firm kiss. As he closed his eyes, he felt Tom's hand come up and wrap in the back of his hair, pulling him closer. He didn't want the moment to end, but it had to as both men pulled back to catch their breaths.

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to. It's not a condition of me helping you." Blu already knew that.
