Part 2: One Way Ticket to Lust
The closer we get to the launch area itself it gets easier and easier to be able to tell that the crystal is really working. Itâs one thing to not be able to see ourselves. Thatâs more disorienting than youâd think, but if I got used to it quickly enough then Iâm sure my teammates had an easier time with it.
Blowing the charge caused just the right level of distraction. I might have grabbed something a little bit on the weak end so the fence is alright, but thatâs probably for the best. It drew people over without potentially hurting anyone. Iâd rather lean into that.
Even still, entirely too many people rushed past us and not one of them looked in our direction in any way that indicated they could see us. If we were visible, then theyâd need to all be very good at not reactingâespecially during a potential emergency. I wonât lie and say that I wasnât expecting the crystal to wind up a bit of a dud, but if I ever run into her again Iâll be sure to thank her profusely.
To speed things up, and to make it less likely for anyone to walk into us, Pandora and Aureus have been squeezing my hand to signal, I squeeze back, and then we fly through the air for a ways to give a boost of speed. Itâs working remarkably well. If Iâd realized that Olivia could fly I might have suggested just going in from the other side, but that felt too risky. There was too much of a chance that weâd need time to adjust on the fly, and it seemed way better to have time to do that before reaching our goal. If they get suspicious that the launch itself is being disrupted this might not go off.
The exterior walls being tested was a thing I found all over their internal reports. Theyâve been looking into a few groups who are actively opposed to the stated goals of The Argentum Project. No reason for them to suspect Iâm involved.
With the tiny distraction drawing most of them away, there arenât many guards still at their posts. Itâs a little odd there arenât more of them stationed around. Then again, why would they even need so many visible? The place is a combination of a military base and a futuristic lab facility. More people are no doubt stashed away in case of a real emergency, and we know they have some heavy hitters for meta backup. With The Domina around, they could have anyone working for them if they wantedâ¦
Going across the country gave me a good glimpse at whatâs really out there. Iâm not eager to face some of the top heroes convinced that serving the project with body and mind is the best thing they could do for the world.
I canât believe The Domina would work with Mind Bore . As we hop across the base, that thought keeps coming back to my mind.
