The logic of Robinson’s conclusion is that if “natural” evil cannot be attributed either to God’s will or humanity’s will, it must be attributed to the free will of some other agent. This view, Robinson notes, “is the solution which meets us in the pages of the Bible when it is read as a whole.” Reflecting the core vision of the warfare worldview, he continues:

It means that the world is a place where a tremendous struggle is being fought out between the powers of evil and of goodness. The world is a battlefield, and battlefields are rarely comfortable places. . . . Why should this solution be thought to be less satisfactory for our day than for other days?8
