Getting Home

It was past one in the morning when Charles unlocked the gate to Sarafune to let himself in. It had been a long afternoon, and his head was still screaming at him about the fact that he had taken so long to get home. Or, it would if he wasn’t so tired. Instead, it desired sleep almost as much as he did, and a few bargains with it had led to him actually being somewhat safe from the thoughts for now.

The first was the smell that hit him as he got back into the car. The easy thing he could have done was just get everyone Mcdonalds for tomorrow, but that wouldn’t have held up great after a few hours. Edible? Sure, but not good. So, instead, he found a chinese place that was open after midnight and had ordered a dozen different dishes of all sorts of variety, just in case the girls decided to be picky. As all of them were mythologically carnivores though, he doubted they’d have too many issues with seven different types of chicken.

The next thing had been to get some things for the pantry that he should have gotten before now, such as peanut butter, a couple loaves of bread, simple things that were hard to screw up, didn’t spoil easily, and could be made by anyone. Heck, he bet most of them wouldn’t even need a knife for the peanut butter. He’d have possibly even smiled at the joke if he wasn’t so tired that he almost couldn’t move.

Instead, he parked the car just on the other side of the gate, making sure that he didn’t wake anyone up with its engine. This was all his fault after all, and he could face the dozen trips up and down the path that led up to the house himself. Did it hurt? Yes. Did he fall a couple times? Yes. Did he mind? He would’ve minded more had he not gotten a couple scrapes.

He then made about ten different plates of food of different varieties of chinese, just so that the girls would be able to see easily all of their options, and if any of the plates spoke to them they could just take it. It was more time, and his arms felt heavy as he dragged his feet across the floor. He couldn’t focus on it though, or else his mind would just start murmuring again. Start screaming insul at him again. He just had to keep moving. Not think about it. Just keep moving.

Moving. That was the hardest part when he finally left the kitchen. He had so many places he could go after all. He could go to his room. That would be the fastest bed he could get to. He could just collapse and sleep. It would be so easy, and so comfy. The next option was Dari’s room, which was just upstairs. He could maybe even talk to her about how his head wa- No. No, that was impossible.
