Chapter Twenty-Five

Emilia has barely come out of her room I did visit her a bit yesterday when Alessia went with her tutor to do her schoolwork. Emilia is so exhausted she could barely stay awake for twenty minutes, even though she tried to force herself to stay awake, but I would not do that to her. I told her to rest; I kept checking on her while Mateo had his meeting.

I am excited to see Pop this morning. I am riding in the back of the SUV Vittorio is driving, he insisted because he said it is safer. I agreed with him this time, usually I would have argued but I promised Salvatore I would cooperate while he was away.

“How do you think Pop will take the news?” Vittorio asks me.

“I think he will be a bit disappointed he wasn’t at the wedding but then he will also understand. But I know he will be excited about the baby because he was over the moon about Serenity. He always said he can’t wait to spoil all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.” I tell him with a smile on his face.

“He definitely spoiled you in love.”

“Yeah, he did. God knows I wasn’t going to get anything from my mother.”

“You said it not me.” I chuckle at him, “Vittorio you were around her enough when I was with Salvatore before to know how selfish she is. That is why I am choosing to keep her away from my children. All she will do is try and use them to get money from someone and she will not put my kids through that. No child deserves that.”

“You are a good mom.” I shake my head, “I am not a mom yet.”

“No, you became a mom the moment you found out about Serenity. Look at you, doing your best to keep anyone who will hurt your kids away from them.” He says as we pull up to the café. Pop is standing outside, like he always does. Vittorio and a few other men get out. Vittorio comes to my side of the car opening the door for me. We walk together to Pop; I see from the corner of my eye the other men scattering around the café. The way they are acting you would think I am the Queen of England, but if them being this over the top keeps Salvatore at ease, so be it.

“I will be inside with you but far enough away to give you privacy. If you need me just call me over.” He says right before we get to Pop. I nod and thank Vittorio as he heads inside.

Pop hugs me, I swear he gives the best bear hugs.

“Hey, Ladybug”

“Hi, Pop,” I say hugging him back.

“Come on, let’s get our grub on. I am starving.” Pop says, as he releases me from the hug. We walk in with Vittorio behind us. We get a table; the waitress takes our drink order. Pop gets coffee and I get orange juice.
