Chapter Eighteen

During their lunch, Rockelle had asked Emmett what or who he had seen while they were in traffic. He didn’t think she had noticed and was going to say nothing, but when she obviously did, he told her about his other mother.

Rockelle had easily spotted her trying to stay inconspicuous as she followed them, but as mentioned before, Rockelle was a very observant person and with a quick heads up from Officer Stanley, she had already had her eyes out for being tailed in any way.

Emmett had only told her that he thought he saw his mother and nothing else, no details to why he was so shocked or scared when he saw her. But Rockelle didn’t seem to care, she didn’t need a life story to understand that something had happened between the two to have his reaction in such a manner.

So, without asking, she had a few friends around the community watch out for the car description she gave with a white woman as the driver.

After that, she went to her club to sort out something she was contacted about last minute.

“Today supposed to be mi day off.” Rockelle deadpanned as she entered her office, Phillip just behind her.

“Sorry, but Deacon wanted to see you.” Phillip sighed. “You know what he’s like.”

Rockelle only blinked, “You know what I’m like.”

“I do. Sorry. It’s just—”

“Send him in. Only him.” She cut him off as she sat behind her office desk.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Emmett had been feeling uneasy ever since he saw his mother. How she found him was beyond what he knew. Why was even more of an unknown. He was curious, but he didn’t want to find out anything. He simply wanted her away from him. Any good memories he had with her were all false and whilst he was growing up, she proved it to him time and time again.

After all, she was the very cause of his panic attacks, and by just seeing her, the memories about the things she would do to him easily, but unwillingly came back.
