“She’s asleep,” I wake up to Dom telling someone.

“We wanted to check on her,” Mia tells him.

“Thank you. What did you find out with your dad?” Dom asks.

“He admitted to Rae being his and his lover’s. We asked him why he allowed Mom to treat Rae that way. He said at first, he didn’t know because he was working so much, and Mom was the primary caretaker. Then he said that Mom told him it was because Rae was always acting up. Eventually, he knew something was up, but he didn’t want Mom to leave him. He said that at least she was fed, clothed, and had a roof over her head,” Aidan says.

“That’s bullshit! She deserved so much more!” Dom bites out.

“We agreed,” Mia says. “That’s why I told them both to leave.”

She sighs. “Mom had already complained to him about it before we found him. She made it seem like we were all attacking her, and she didn’t have a remorseful bone in her body. We gave Dad a chance, but he said that Mom was the love of his life and if she leaves, then so does he.”

“They are packing their bags now,” Aidan adds.

“Are you okay?” Dom asks Mia softly.

“It hurts,” Mia says as I roll over and face the door. Dom’s entire body is blocking the doorway. I climb out of the bed and meander to the door as Mia continues. “But it doesn’t hurt for me. I hurt for her. I hurt for what wasn’t. I hurt because I was one that hurt her. But I promise, I will make it up to her,” she admits.

“It will be okay,” I say behind Dom, causing him to jump out of the way and place an arm on my shoulder. He kisses the top of my head.

I walk into the doorway to Aidan and Mia and grab both of their hands, giving them a squeeze, before pulling them to me in a hug. “Thank you!”
