Adelle looked around the ship’s deck and smiled contentedly. Tilly and Mickey were comparing longevity notes. Earlier, Adelle had thanked Mickey for bringing attention to her self-defeating thinking. Mickey had laughed when Adelle had blurted “I love to travel, but no more guilt trips!”

Debbie was talking to the painter who was trying to keep her sketch pad safe from Debbie, talking with her hands as usual.

Barb and Evelyn were laughing at something on Barb’s phone.

Adelle was curious. “What are you looking at?”

“Debbie’s post of us dancing on the Avignon bridge,” Evelyn replied, eyes twinkling.

It had been Adelle’s idea. Barb’s phone provided the music, and their Avignon tour guide had been happy to video them.

“Tilly thinks we dance like old geezers,” Barb said.

Breathe Adelle, breathe. “Old geezers?”

Barb grinned. “Tilly taught me that expression when we said goodbye after our first trip. If anyone wanted to know what I had been working on, Tilly said to tell them that I was simply hanging out with old geezers.”

Evelyn looked at Adelle. Adelle looked at Evelyn. They both burst out laughing at the same time.

When Debbie and Tilly joined them to see what was so funny, Barb disappeared for several minutes. She returned with wine glasses and two open bottles of Châteauneuf du Pape. After pouring the wine, Barb stood to make a toast.

“On behalf of Teresa, thank you for helping us find her missing funds.”

Debbie made a show of twirling her glass, then sniffed it appreciatively. “I smell berries.”

“I taste raspberry and currants,” Adelle added, proud of her memory.

“With a touch of thyme, clove, and vanilla,” Evelyn chimed in.

Tilly chuckled and raised her glass higher. “And a hint of Jean-Luc!”

After some good-natured teasing, Adelle proposed her own toast. “To Barb, whose brilliant technology skills saved the day.”

Barb grinned. “With a little help from my friends.” She turned to Evelyn. “It’s time to tell you how I got my promotion on our first trip.”

As Barb filled Evelyn in on what had happened on their river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam, Tilly leaned toward Adelle. “We’ve been talking about another river cruise together.”

Debbie’s eyes were dancing. “Have you seen everything you wanted to see in Paris?”

“Have you heard of the home of champagne?” Tilly asked. “Champagne is good for your heart, you know.”

“Have you been to the Swiss Alps?” Debbie asked.

Adelle tingled with excitement.

“Not yet!”
