I SPOKE WITH A FEW OF THE PATRONS AT THE BAR and then began jotting down a few supplies that needed to be ordered. My parents had finished eating and had come over to say their farewells.

“How was everything?” I asked. “Just fine,” my father said. “The chicken was very tender. I’m positive your mother enjoyed everything because after she finished hers, she started eating mine.”

My mother cut her eyes at my father and told me herself that the food was excellent. Then my roses caught her attention. She looked at them and then me, expecting me to say something.

“Yellow roses with red tips?” she commented. “Humph…means someone’s falling in love.”

I offered a nonchalant shrug and ushered them to the door. I expressed that it was a pleasant surprise to see them and let them know that I would call during the week. We hugged and parted ways. I went back to work, letting the spring in my step get me through the remainder of the day.
