After the movie, we drove home, hands entwined on the center console of my BMW. As I turned onto our street, my gaze caught on a black Mercedes S class, parked in front of the neighbor’s house. “Shit.”

Jeremy pursed his lips, fixating on the car. “Gabe, drive around the block. I’m going to see if I can get a picture of the license plate on the back bumper. It was hard to tell, but I didn’t see anyone in the car.”

“Yeah, sure.” I stepped on the gas and drove around the block, past where Axel and Remy lived with Axel’s brother, Leo, then past a park with colorful playground equipment all lit up, and finally, turned onto my street again. The black Mercedes was gone. “Fuck.” I pulled to the side of the road where the car had been.

“Fuck is right. They saw us and left.” He sucked in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. “They’re messing with us, I’m sure of it. I’ll bet your dad has or will be hearing from them again.”

“You think? Why are they only here on the weekends?” I scanned the street that fed into this one. No taillights, either. “Think they’ve got day jobs and can only fuck with us on their time off?” I snickered.

“No idea. But you guys are all out of the house on the weekends when you have gigs. Maybe they figure it’s a good time to scope the place out and see if they can find a hole in the security system?” He perused the area around the houses, leaning forward in his seat and looking out the window.

A shiver worked up my spine. “Shit, Jeremy, now you’re scaring me.” I rubbed the goosebumps rising on my arms.

“Come here.” He grabbed the back of my neck and pulled me close, then planted a kiss on my forehead. “If they’re smart, they should know the name of your band by now and know when you have gigs. It’s not hard to find out from your social media accounts.” He freed me and gave me a warm grin.

“Yeah, that’s true.” Another shiver rolled down my spine. This whole situation was unnerving.
