When we arrived at her school, she quickly retrieved our passes, and released irritated little sighs as we followed her to her room.

“Iz, do you think you have enough concert DVDs?” Ronnie asked once he spotted the DVDs I’d gotten her lined up neatly on a shelf.

“I don’t remember you having this many,” Seth said.

“Jake gave them to me for my birthday,” she said, giving me a soft look. I pecked her cheek and dropped to her bed while Seth dropped to Annie’s. She grabbed Ronnie’s arm as he headed for the bathroom.

“What?” he asked feigning innocence. “I have to use the restroom.”

“I don’t believe you,” she said.

Grinning, he chucked her under the chin. “Come on, Iz! I’m not going to get in your feminine products or anything.”

All of us crinkled our noses and voiced our disgust as she finally released his arm and turned to Matt, who was seated at her desk, scribbling in a notebook.

“Do you even know what you’re doing?” she asked, pointing at a Calculus textbook.

“He’s a math genius,” I said, picking up a picture frame. I remembered seeing the picture on Nick’s phone – one of Iz wrapped in my arms. “Where did you get this picture?”

“Nick,” she said, plucking the frame from my hands and setting it back in its place “Ronnie! Let’s GO!”

Ronnie emerged with a grin that I was sure frightened Iz. But she said nothing, just took my hand and tugged me out the door, inquiring about our luggage.

“Ah, we’ll get them out of Seth’s truck in a little while,” Nick said. “We want to take a look around first.”

“What do you want to see first?” I could hear the nervous anxiety in her voice.

Seth put an arm around her shoulders “How about if we show them the Student Center, sister dear?”

She plastered a false smile on her face. “How about not?”

“Oh, but Iz,” I said, lifting her hand to my lips. “We all really want to see this Student Center. I didn’t get to see it when I was here last time.”

She stopped, her body stiff.

“I’ll show you,” Seth said when Iz refused to move.

She continued with us, having no other choice, but she wasn’t happy. She was fuming, plain and simple, but I didn’t release her hand. Well, not until Nick tossed the drumsticks he’d been playing with into the air and one of them hit me in the head. I released Iz as I turned to give Nick a tongue-lashing.

Quick as a flash, Iz opened the door to the Student Center. We were right behind her and my blood boiled at the first words I heard.

“Look, the Meridian Valley tramp has returned.”

It was that Dean punk.

I tensed, ready to beat the shit out of him, but Seth pushed me out of his way in his effort to reach the little shit. He grabbed the dick by the shirt, shoving him against the wall.
