Drugs for Parkinson’s Disease

Since the introduction of hyoscyamine in the 1860s and levodopa in the 1960s, many newer medications have been developed and are available to treat PD symptoms. As more is learned about these new drugs, as well as the older ones, they can be put to their best use so that the patient’s quality of life is improved as much as possible. The two major goals of drug treatment for PD are to increase the levels of available dopamine in the brain and to minimize the symptoms.
