HE MUST HAVE BEEN REALLY lost in thought because Deryn’s voice behind him startled him enough he jumped, elbow going straight into the shelf behind him and sending its contents raining down on him. He gritted his teeth against the flash of pain. And then he was being yanked forward and away from the deluge of pens and glue sticks.

When he blinked next, Deryn’s hands were around his wrists and the younger man was looking up at him, no barriers between them. “You okay?” Up close, his eyelashes were thick and soft looking. His heart was beating wildly.

As was Abel’s.

The hands around his wrists were warm and too small to reach all the way around but that hadn’t mattered to Deryn—he hadn’t hesitated to pull him to safety.

Abel didn’t hesitate either, not a single thought required as he leaned down and pressed his mouth to Deryn’s cheek, close enough to his mouth so as to almost not matter. It was soft and warm under his lips, only a hint of stubble, Deryn’s breath hitching, his fingers tightening their hold.

His mouth parted under Abel’s, a chain reaction that couldn’t be stopped, his tongue coming out, his hands climbing to tug his shoulders down, Abel’s arms finding their way around him and bringing him closer, both of them stumbling a little but not falling—too close together to fall.

Deryn was light, easy to move when Abel stepped forward and pressed him against the door, a move so fluid it could have almost been choreographed. The next step brought Deryn’s hips up, arching into him, welcoming and eager so that Abel couldn’t have said for certain if he’d pressed his knee forward or Deryn had pulled it there. The tender breathless whimper that got him made that immaterial.

Abel pushed again, sucking on Deryn’s earlobe as he exposed his throat in a way that made his wolf howl inside him. It wasn’t the same, it didn’t mean... but it didn’t seem to matter when Deryn shuddered hard enough Abel’s fingers instinctively dug into his hips to keep him in place.

With the door at his back and Abel plastered to his front, there was nowhere for him to go, and he gave no sign of wanting to get away, hips shoving forward in tight little circles, crotch hot and... God, his scent—salty and spicy and so... Abel groaned, trembling in his arms as Deryn rubbed himself against his thigh, burning despite the layers of clothing and hard too. And Abel had to feel that wetness, the heat of him...

And then, like a shock to the system, a door closed too loudly in the corridor and he jerked back, almost falling in his haste to get away. What the hell...?

Deryn’s eyes, the gold eclipsed by his arousal, met his, dazed and beautiful, too much emotion to determine what he was feeling. His lips were redder than usual, a mark Abel hadn’t intended to leave and could almost not resist. “Sorry,” he said, even as he dug his nails into his own hands to keep himself still.
